Counseling
The YISS counseling team serves as advocates and guides for students across all grade levels, focusing on enhancing their academic, social-emotional, career, and spiritual development throughout their school experience.
YISS counselors provide support through a comprehensive school counseling program designed to meet the developmental needs of all students. Services include classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, individual counseling, and check-ins as needed.
The YISS counseling program focuses on four main areas of student growth and support:
Transition Assistance
Moving to a new school or country can be stressful for families, and YISS aims to help students transition from one international environment to another. To aid this transition, the divisional counselors offer a variety of activities, including:
Orientation
Peer Mentoring
Individualized Support
Academic Advising
The divisional counselors also provide academic advising to assist students who are struggling in the classroom and need help reaching their full potential as learners. Some of the areas in which counselors assist include:
Study and Organizational Skills
Time Management
Test Anxiety
Learning Style Assessments
Course Planning
College and Career Planning
YISS students have a record of success in admission to some of the world’s top universities. Our student applications are competitive with strong grades and high standardized test scores. Our counselors assist with college applications, coordinate college visits, and provide extensive support to our students.
Social and Emotional Counseling
Counselors promote emotional wellness, resilience, and positive relationships through individual and group sessions, classroom lessons, and schoolwide initiatives. YISS counselors help students build self-awareness, empathy, and coping strategies to manage challenges and grow in confidence.
