YISS Delegates Make Their Mark at Vancouver MUN

Written by Seunghun Lee, MUN student

From January 23 to 25, the YISS Model United Nations (MUN) Team traveled to Vancouver and competed at the Vancouver MUN (VMUN) Conference, the largest high school-run conference in North America. With over 1,400 delegates from across Canada and the United States, the YISS MUN Team was the only international school that participated in the 25th iteration of VMUN.

After arriving in Canada the day before the conference, the team explored downtown Vancouver, visiting the waterfront and walking through Harbour Green Park. During the conference, the YISS delegates engaged in fruitful discussions, interacted with students from other schools, and wrote resolutions to present their solutions. From debating about the state of European democracy to reliving the Meiji Restoration, the YISS delegates displayed their extensive background knowledge and impressive public speaking skills. On the second night of the conference, the delegates also attended the Delegate Social, where they bonded as a team through DJ music and fierce Nintendo competitions.

Out of 16 delegates who represented YISS over the three-day conference, 10 delegates were recognized for their hard work and excellent performance:

Best Delegate: Seunghun L. (11), Elisa M. (9)

Outstanding Delegate: Mia M. (12), Kate L. (11)

Honorable Mention: Olivia L. (11), Lukas M. (11)

Best Research: Khanh D. (11), Saeyoon S. (11), Dillon K. (10), Olivia S. (10)

After its successful campaign in VMUN, the YISS MUN Team prepares to finish its eventful season with one final conference in March.
