Seniors Launch Their Final Year Together
On Saturday, August 9, the YISS Class of 2026 kicked off their final year of high school with the annual Senior Symposium. Hosted by the High School Counseling Department and the Student Council, this one-day on-campus event encouraged seniors to embrace their leadership role within the school community. Through team-building games and reflective activities, students strengthened class unity, built meaningful connections, and prepared for the exciting year and college application season ahead.
As part of the day’s program, Mrs. Greisy Tellez guided seniors through the RAFT framework (Reconciliation, Affirmation, Farewell, and Think Destination), a meaningful approach to navigating their final year of high school and preparing for college life. Building on earlier lessons about reconciliation, students focused on affirmation by expressing appreciation for their classmates through handwritten notes, celebrating the friendships and shared experiences that have shaped their journey together.
To launch their college application season, seniors took part in hands-on activities led by Mrs. Lorena Meadows that offered a new perspective on the admissions process. During the “GPA Game,” they explored how involvement in activities, relationships with teachers, and personal essays influence college decisions, realizing that GPA is only one piece of the puzzle. They also enjoyed stepping into the role of admissions officers, reviewing mock applications, and deciding which students to admit, waitlist, or deny. The experience helped them better understand what colleges value and what makes each application unique.
The day reminded seniors not only of the challenges ahead but also of the strength of their community and the importance of supporting one another. With teamwork, reflection, and plenty of enthusiasm, the seniors are stepping into their leadership roles and looking ahead to a memorable year filled with growth and new opportunities.
