MS Cross Country Team Finishes Strong

On Saturday, October 21, our MS cross country team traveled to Cheongna Dalton School to participate in the MS KAIAC Championship. The first event of the day was the boys’ and girls’ open race. Kayla Y. (7) was the first female runner to finish the 3K race, and Jin K. (8) was the second male to finish the race. This race consisted of 68 runners from six other KAIAC schools.

The second race of the day was the girls’ championship race. Each participating school can designate seven official championship runners. The seven YISS runners were Lily C. (7) in 1st place, Abigail L. (6) in 2nd place, Olivia S. (8) in 4th place, Sena B. (7) in 6th place, Camila H. (7) in 7th place, Christine C. (6) in 8th place, and Elisha C. (7) in 9th place. The first five runners from each school to finish the race make up the team score for that school. Our girls' team finished with a total of 20 points, winning the MS KAIAC Championship. The next closest school finished with 51 points.

The third and final race of the day was the boys’ championship race. The seven YISS runners were Eugene L. (8) in 2nd place, Eden Y. (8) in 8th place, Dylan H. (6) in 18th place, Josiah D. (6) in 19th place, Grant R. (8) in 23rd place, Joshua H. (8) in 25th place, and Julian P. (7) in 30th place. Our boys' team finished with a total of 70 points and took home runner-up honors.

The efforts of our cross country team earned YISS three points in the MS KAIAC Black Division Cup standings, an annual trophy awarded to the school with the most points at the end of the school year. Points are awarded for 1st place (2 points) and 2nd place (1 point) finishes in the MS KAIAC Tournaments throughout the year.
