MS Soccer Teams Claim 2nd Place in KAIAC Tournament

On Saturday, October 21, our MS boys’ and girls’ soccer teams participated in the inaugural Black Division MS KAIAC Soccer Tournament held at YISS. The tournaments consisted of two preliminary games followed by a single elimination bracket to determine the MS KAIAC Champions of the Black Division. The fellow Black Division schools are Chadwick International (CI), Korea International School (KIS), Seoul Foreign School (SFS), and Seoul International School (SIS).

Our girls' team started the day off with a 2-1 victory over KIS before falling to SFS by a score of 1-0. The 1-1 finish in preliminary play earned the girls three points and the No. 3 seed in the bracket. This set up a rematch against the No. 2 seed, the SFS Crusaders, in the semi-final. After full time, the game was tied at 0-0 and went to penalty kicks to determine the winner. Chloe K. (8) had some great saves in goal, and Bria L. (7) kicked the game-winning goal to defeat SFS and advance to the championship game against Chadwick. The girls played well but ran into a well-oiled machine, falling to the Dolphins by a score of 6-0. The girls wrapped up the season with a 2nd place finish in the Black Division MS KAIAC Soccer Tournament.

Our boys began preliminary play with a 2-1 victory over KIS before falling to SFS by a score of 3-0. The 1-1 finish in preliminary play earned the boys three points and the No. 3 seed in the bracket. Much like the girls' bracket, this set up a rematch against the No. 2 seed Crusaders from SFS in the semi-final. The result echoed that of the girls' tournament, with the Guardians knocking the Crusaders out of the tournament with a 3-0 victory. The boys advanced to the championship game to face off against the No. 5 seed Tigers from SIS. The boys played hard and put up a good fight, but the comeback story of the Tigers was too much to overcome for the Guardians. With the loss in the final, the boys wrapped up the season with a 2nd Place finish in the Black Division MS KAIAC Soccer Tournament.

The efforts of our soccer teams earned YISS two points in the MS KAIAC Black Division Cup standings, an annual trophy awarded to the school with the most points at the end of the school year. Points are awarded for 1st place (two points) and 2nd place (one point) finishes in the MS KAIAC Tournaments throughout the year.
