Japanese Educators Visit YISS for Cultural Exchange

Written by Dr. Bryan Meadows, Japanese Teacher

On March 10, two educators from Hachioji North High School in Tokyo, Japan visited YISS High School for a one-day exchange. The visiting educators were Ms. Chise Nomura, Assistant Principal, and Mr. Takashi Suzuki, Teacher Lead.

During their visit, the guests participated in a Japanese One class, joined a campus tour led by L-Crew student volunteers, observed classroom instruction, and engaged with YISS faculty while having lunch in the cafeteria.

The visit began with a special welcome address from Head of School Mr. Sean Garrick during the Japanese One class. The educators then engaged students in light and lively conversation in Japanese, creating an authentic opportunity for YISS students to practice their developing language skills.

Throughout the day, the visitors were warmly welcomed by students and staff as they explored the campus. The exchange was facilitated by the Tokyo International Exchange Concierge Office of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, with additional support from a host committee of YISS teachers and student volunteers.

Educator exchanges like this reflect YISS’s commitment to global engagement and its vision of impacting the world with servant hearts.
