Fall Book Fair Brings Vast Bookstore to YISS
Written by Deanna Luck and María José López Grancha, PTO Book Fair Co-Chairs
The YISS community came together for the annual Fall Book Fair, a much-anticipated celebration of reading and the power of stories. Organized by the PTO and YISS Media Centers (libraries) in partnership with TongBang Books and Word of Life, the event transformed the school’s main lobby into a vibrant bookstore filled with stories that sparked imagination and inspired learning.
Held from October 28–31, students, teachers, and parents browsed a wide selection of books—from adventurous chapter books and inspiring biographies to creative picture books and educational titles. The fair aimed to nurture a lifelong love of reading while raising funds designated for schoolwide literacy initiatives. These proceeds will support Elementary School Read-a-Thon prizes, author visits, and other events that benefit readers across the YISS community.
A standout feature of this year’s fair was the classroom library donation program, which allowed students and families to give directly to their classrooms. Teachers selected books they hoped to add to their class libraries, and students could purchase and donate them in their names. This thoughtful initiative not only expanded classroom collections but also fostered a spirit of generosity and community connection.
The success of the Fall Book Fair was made possible through the dedication of our PTO volunteers, who helped set up displays, guided students in selecting books, and assisted with the book donation process. Their enthusiasm ensured a smooth, joyful experience for all. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this year’s book fair such a meaningful success!
