Guardian Globetrotters Travel the World at Elementary Field Day

Written by Kevin Rayburn and Ryan Winter, Elementary Physical Education Teachers

Elementary students, staff, and parents came together for an exciting day of games, teamwork, and school spirit during this year’s Elementary Field Day. Inspired by the theme “Guardian Globetrotters,” students traveled “around the world” through creative activities and challenges that transformed the YISS campus into a celebration of international fun.

Under beautiful spring skies, over 400 kindergarten through 5th grade students kicked off the day on the soccer field, where they rotated through globally themed stations led by teachers, staff, and parent volunteers.

From the fast-paced Monaco Cart Race to the strength-testing Scottish Caber Toss, each activity highlighted games and traditions inspired by different countries around the world. Similar to past Field Days, the event focused on building teamwork, school spirit, and community while giving students a memorable day outside the classroom.

The excitement and encouragement from teammates could be heard across the entire field as students proudly represented their house teams — the Green Gators, Yellow Hornets, Blue Sharks, and Orange Tigers. Staff members joined in the fun alongside students, helping create the energetic and welcoming atmosphere that has become a mark of field day.

After a refreshing ice cream break, students headed off to special grade-level afternoon activities. Some classes cooled off in the pool during swim time, while others enjoyed bounce houses, basketball tournaments, and exciting rounds of capture the flag.

A new addition to this year’s event was an electronic scoring system that helped streamline the competition throughout the day. Volunteers and staff members scanned QR codes at each station and entered results directly on their phones or tablets, allowing scores to be updated quickly and efficiently.

As the day came to a close, anticipation built during the closing ceremony as students waited to hear the final results. After a close competition, the Yellow Hornets were crowned the 2026 Elementary School Field Day champions!
