Guardians Cheer on the Bears and Tigers at Jamsil Stadium

Despite the rainy forecast, students, staff, and their families joined a crowd of dedicated baseball fans at Jamsil Stadium on Saturday, April 19, to watch the Doosan Bears face off against the Kia Tigers.

Dressed in rain gear and armed with umbrellas, YISS Guardians showed up to cheer on their favorite teams and enjoy the company of others. In true Korean baseball fashion, the noise and energy in the stadium were high.

Fans participated throughout the game with coordinated chants, rhythmic clapping, and player-specific cheers. Cheering squads—with their drummers, dancers, and non-stop enthusiasm—kept the crowd engaged from start to finish. Not even the occasional drizzle could dampen the excitement.

Many YISS families came decked out in school gear or team jerseys, bringing along plenty of snacks and drinks. With a wide variety of food options both inside and outside the stadium, staying fueled and refreshed was all part of the fun.

Both teams were tied 4 to 4 at the end of the fourth inning when the Doosan Bears gave a special shout-out to YISS with a message on the scoreboard. However, during both the sixth and ninth innings, the Kia Tigers pulled ahead, scoring two runs to win the game with a final score of 8 to 4. Regardless of which team fans were cheering for, the upbeat music and high energy created a fun family baseball event

Special thanks to Mark Mendes of the YISS Dads’ Club for organizing this fantastic community event. It was a perfect example of how rain or shine, the YISS community shows up strong—together.
