ACSC Girl’s Soccer Compete in Manila

The high school girls soccer team had little expectations leading up to the ACSC tournament hosted in Manila, Philippines by Faith Academy from April 18 to 19. With the team only having four upperclassmen, this year was a building year for the girls with tough breakthroughs, but definitely also a rewarding and enriching year, as the YISS girls got to work together on the field as well as bond in a shared room.

At the tournament, YISS went against numerous teams, including ICS-BK, ICS-HK, GIS, DIS, and GSIS in which the girls fought hard and improved in their tactical skills, focusing on the basics such as passing, and improved in their gameplay knowledge, reflecting back on their games. Although goal scoring was a challenge, the girls still managed to successfully frustrate multiple teams with their defensive skills. The YISS girls were truly great sports, enduring through this growing season, in which multiple girls were asked to play out of position. Avery Sohn (12) one out of the four upperclassmen, led the YISS girls in a game-changing goal against GSIS after she was put into a forward position in contrast to her usual defender position.

Throughout this trip, not only was physical strength tested through playing soccer games back to back, mental strength was also tested, pushing through the heat and a couple of injuries. To emphasize the importance of mental strength during this ACSC soccer tournament, the girls enjoyed a splash in the pool, bonding together as a team, marking the end of their truly memorable 2025 ACSC in Manila.
