Eighth Graders Celebrate with Hollywood-Themed Gala

Written by Kimberly Lynch, Eighth Grade Lead Teacher

On Friday, May 15, 2026, eighth grade students, parents, and middle school teachers gathered to celebrate the YISS Class of 2030. The evening marked an important milestone as students reflected on their middle school years and looked ahead to the opportunities that await them in high school.

The celebration began with family photos in the auditorium lobby, giving students and their loved ones an opportunity to capture memories of the special occasion. Guests then moved into the auditorium for the promotion ceremony, which was led by student emcees. As each student crossed the stage, teachers presented certificates recognizing their achievements and successful completion of middle school.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came at the conclusion of the ceremony, when students presented flowers to their parents and loved ones. The gesture expressed gratitude for the encouragement, support, and sacrifices that helped them reach this important milestone.

Following the ceremony, parents were dismissed while students gathered in the courtyard, which had been transformed into a Hollywood-themed celebration space by the Middle School PTO. Complete with festive decorations inspired by the glamour of the red carpet, the setting provided a memorable backdrop for the evening. Students enjoyed dinner and live entertainment performed by their classmates, creating a celebratory atmosphere worthy of the occasion.

The evening continued with an after-party in the gym. Students changed out of their formal attire and watched a special end-of-year video created by their peers, highlighting memorable moments from their middle school experience. The celebration concluded with games, conversation, and time spent together as classmates reflected on shared memories and looked ahead to their high school years.

The beautiful event was made possible through the efforts of the middle school parent volunteers, PTO, and middle school teachers, who worked together to create a memorable celebration for the YISS Class of 2030.
