After School Activities Build Community, Growth, and Fun
Written by Ryan Winter, After School Activities Coordinator
As Trimester 3 came to a close, YISS proudly celebrated another season of After School Activities (ASA), marked by energy, creativity, and student engagement. Throughout the trimester, elementary and middle school students participated in a wide variety of enriching activities that encouraged them to explore new interests, develop new skills, build friendships, and stay active beyond the school day.
This trimester featured more than 30 weekly activities serving over 240 elementary and middle school students. From athletics and aquatics to arts, STEM, dance, martial arts, and recreational programs, students engaged in experiences that fostered personal growth, teamwork, and creativity. Whether competing on the court, collaborating on hands-on projects, learning new movement skills, or simply enjoying time with peers, students found opportunities to learn and connect outside the traditional classroom setting.
One of the highlights of the trimester was seeing students step outside their comfort zones and try new activities alongside classmates from different grade levels. These experiences helped strengthen resilience, communication, leadership, and a sense of belonging within the YISS community.
The ASA program also supported YISS’s commitment to holistic education by promoting balance, well-being, and student voice through a diverse range of extracurricular opportunities.
The ASA team would also like to thank all instructors, coaches, staff members, and families for their continued support throughout the year. Their flexibility, encouragement, and dedication play a major role in creating positive experiences for students each trimester.
As the school year comes to an end, the ASA program is proud of the enthusiasm and participation shown by YISS students throughout the year. We look forward to continuing to build engaging, student-centered opportunities that help students grow both inside and outside the classroom again next school year.
