March Showcases Music in Our Schools Month at YISS

The month of March was Music in Our Schools Month, and the kickoff week was full of musical performances and activities put on by our talented students at YISS.

In the mornings, Tri-M members greeted our community with lively music in the lobby and a coffee house performance complete with hot chocolate and snacks during high school opps block.

On Thursday night, our music program showcased their talents in a variety show for the community. And throughout the first week, HS and MS ensembles delighted our elementary classes with special performances. What an action-packed kickoff for Music in Our Schools Month!

But the excitement didn’t end there. Continuing on throughout the coming weeks, MS orchestra students performed during their lunchtime for their peers. High school orchestra and choir students also put on a show for the middle schoolers in which the boys’ choral ensemble brought down the house with their rendition of “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys.

The grand finale of the Music in Our Schools event was a guest jazz band performance by Brian Shin & the Swing Makers for our community on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 4. Before their performance, the band also held a master class for our student jazz band, giving them the chance to learn from experts in their craft.

With so many of our students invested in the music programs at YISS, this month was a great way to showcase their talents and interests to the rest of the community. Great job, YISS musicians!
