Varsity Boys Basketball Finishes Season Strong

Written by Timothy Baker, Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

This year’s varsity basketball season was defined by hard-fought games, memorable victories, and a team that competed with determination. Among the highlights were major wins over SIS, Chadwick, and Humphreys.

Senior captains Andy L. (12) and Tyler P. (12) earned KAIAC All-Conference honors, with Andy also receiving KAIAC and ACSC All-Tournament recognition. Andy additionally set a new YISS career record for most steals. As a team, the Guardians were recognized with the KAIAC Team Sportsmanship Award.

Led by nine seniors, the group modeled strong leadership through effort, coachability, and commitment to one another throughout the season. The team also embraced the theme verse of Galatians 6:9, striving not to grow weary in doing good while growing together as teammates and continuing to deepen their walk with Christ.

Reflecting on the season, senior captain Tyler Park shared: “Through countless hours of drills and sharing both huge victories and devastating defeats, we formed a bond no different from that of a family. Playing for this program and for Coach Baker, Lynch, and Benedict has truly been the highlight of my high school years, and I can't wait to watch the underclassmen step up next year. A quick message to the underclassmen is to play hard, but don't forget to have fun!”
