Student Council Rebrands Valentine’s as a Day for All

There seems to be a misconception surrounding Valentine’s Day, portraying it solely as a celebration for those in romantic relationships. However, diving into the holiday’s origins reveals the story of Saint Valentine, a rebel who dared to defy the emperor's edicts by uniting couples to spare husbands from war. This act of compassion is what Valentine's Day is really about.

Instead of confining the day to the bounds of romantic love, I believe we should try to embrace all forms of human connection. This sentiment prompted the HS Student Council to rebrand Valentine’s Day as an inclusive day open to all.

Last year, we noticed how students loved writing notes to each other, so we continued the usage of handwritten notes to add a personalized touch. From January 29 to February 2, students and staff flooded the halls during breaks to write heartfelt messages to friends and loved ones.

One of the standout features of our Valentine's Day Candy Grams was the addition of adorable capybara plush keychains and banana flower plush options. This twist, coupled with selling all packages at cost, brought widespread participation and enthusiasm. Over 300 packages were sold!

The aftermath? A flood of capybara-adorned backpacks in the halls, along with students enjoying candy on Valentine’s.

Our aim was to bring joy to the high school community this Valentine’s Day. Witnessing the genuine delight from both students and staff was worth more than any monetary gain. As the HS Student Council, we are committed to planning future events throughout our final semester with even greater precision and consideration for student feedback.
