Senior Stephan C. Wins KIMEA Composition Competition

YISS Senior, Stephan C., won first place in the 2022-2023 KIMEA Composition Competition in the High School Division with his composition titled "The Songs of the Seasons." Students among participating international schools throughout Korea worked to compose an original piece of music with criteria given by KIMEA. The theme this year was “The Four Seasons.” For this theme, students were encouraged to compose a piece that incorporated musical characteristics and melodies which reflected each of the four seasons.

KIMEA strives to encourage students to connect and explore music as an international community in Korea. There are multiple events that KIMEA hosts that are performance-based, but this event allowed students to explore the world of composition with helpful feedback from judges.

After looking at the feedback from Stephan’s piece, it was clear that the judges believed it was well done and were very impressed with the maturity in his work. The YISS High School Concert Band plans to perform some of Stephan's work for the upcoming Spring Concert in April.

Congratulations, Stephan! Listen to the audio for his piece here.
