YISS Teachers Present at SEA Teachers’ Conference
Written by Becky Palisuri, Elementary School Assistant Principal
From January 30-31, around 70 teachers from six schools across the NICS/OASIS network gathered in Malaysia for the first-ever Southeast Asia (SEA) Teachers’ Conference. Hosted by Oasis International School (OIS), the conference centered on the theme “Growing Stronger Together” and marked an important milestone for the network.
The event brought together K–12 educators from across the region and beyond, including teachers from Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, and Kenya. Throughout the conference, participants collaborated, shared best practices, and strengthened their professional craft in a spirit of unity and shared purpose.
YISS sent 11 educators to participate in the conference with four YISS teachers also serving as presenters, leading professional sessions and contributing to the rich professional learning experience:
Katie Jo Delisle – Apologetics for Kids
Ed Booysen – Nurturing Different Intelligences
Greg Peterson – Three-Act Math Tasks
Emily Flaget – Classroom Connection and Community
The conference schedule included times of worship, a keynote address, breakout workshops, a school tour, and “job-alike” sessions where educators in similar roles gathered to discuss classroom practices. Sessions addressed a wide range of topics, including innovative instructional strategies, inclusive teaching practices, emerging technologies, and approaches to building strong classroom communities. The diversity of offerings ensured that each participant returned with meaningful, practical tools to implement in their own classrooms.
Beyond professional development, the gathering reinforced the strength of the NICS/OASIS network and its shared commitment to student-centered learning. YISS educators returned renewed, inspired, and equipped with strategies that will directly benefit their students.
