MS Admin and Core Teachers Host Open House Live on Zoom

On August 26, middle school parents were invited to hear from the school administration, counselor, and chaplain and then their child’s core teachers through a live zoom link.

The event began with a presentation from the middle school leadership from the Secondary Media Center. Ms. Sevey highlighted this year’s annual theme and some goals designed to positively impact student learning. One goal is for the school as a whole to strive to implement Standards-Based Learning; so in middle school, we will be affirming our priority standards and ensuring alignment with instruction and assessment. Ms. Kershner highlighted COVID guidelines, school plans for Hybrid Learning, and tips for success on virtual school days. Mr. Johnson spoke about the school counselor’s office and the ways he can support students. Mr. Atkinson highlighted spiritual growth and character growth activities.

When the core teachers took the floor live from their classrooms, they Introduced themselves and shared a bit about their class curriculum and expectations. Parents could then watch pre-recorded videos about the elective classes.

The night successfully connected parents to the YISS staff, even with in-person gathering restrictions. The staff was able to introduce themselves and share a bit about what is happening at school and in our classrooms. We are very grateful for the technology at YISS that allows us to connect virtually.

A special thank you to Mr. Ludwig and the Communications Team who helped to coordinate the event through Zoom and by updating our graphics.
