JV Boys Basketball Concludes Remarkable Season

By Sam Benedict, JV Boys Basketball Coach

The JV boys basketball team delivered an impressive season, combining experienced returning players with a group of talented freshmen. The team started strong, earning three early wins against tough opponents, including a key victory over SIS.

Throughout the season, the Guardians found success through balanced play. Strong guard leadership on the perimeter paired with dominant inside play from the team’s bigs, who consistently secured rebounds and provided key defensive stops. The team finished the regular season with a 9–2 record, with their only losses coming against Humphreys.

Entering the KAIAC Tournament as the second seed, YISS battled through two close games to reach the championship. They defeated SFS and Humphreys in back-to-back nail-biters, executing late-game situations effectively and converting crucial shots and free throws. With the victory over Humphreys, the team had successfully defeated every KAIAC opponent during the season.

In the championship game against SIS, the Guardians held a halftime lead. However, fatigue became a factor in the second half, and SIS eventually pulled away to secure the win. YISS finished the season with an overall record of 11–3 and a second-place finish in the KAIAC Tournament.

Beyond the results, the season was defined by the team’s strong sense of unity and selflessness. Players consistently prioritized team success over individual recognition while stepping up in key moments. Through both victories and challenges, the Guardians represented YISS basketball with effort, character, and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to the JV boys on a remarkable season.
