Guest Lecturer Explores Fashion Innovation and Sustainability
Written by Lorena Meadows, Director of High School Counseling
On January 27, the school hosted a specialized session during OPPS featuring a guest college lecture from Dr. Minjung Cho, a Research Assistant Professor at the School of Fashion and Textiles at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU). As a global leader in textile science and engineering, HKPU provided students with a high-level look into the intersection of business, STEM, and sustainability.
The event drew an impressive crowd with many interested students in attendance from all high school grade levels. The academic lecture covered essential modern topics, including Fashion Design, Innovation, and Technology, giving students a glimpse into how these fields are merging to shape the future of the industry. Following the lecture, students attended an informative session regarding PolyU’s undergraduate programs and their specific admission pathways.
High school club Fits from Bits (FFB) was instrumental in facilitating the visit. Under the leadership of President Hannah K. (11) and VP Elaine A. (11), the club helped host the session and ensured a welcoming atmosphere by sponsoring free donuts for all participants.
This event is one of many ways YISS provides opportunities for students to learn more about worldwide universities and diverse career paths. By connecting our students with world-class experts, we bridge the gap between their current studies and their future professional aspirations, preparing them to lead in a global landscape.
