Guardians Serve and Swim in Manila

For the first time since 2019, the Guardian swim teams participated live in the ACSC swimming championship, hosted this year by Faith Academy in the Philippines. The event saw a notable increase in athlete participants and the number of schools involved. Swimmers from Morrison Taichung, Morrison Kaohsiung, Grace International School, ICS Hong Kong, and Gyeonggi Suwon International School joined the YISS swimmers for five days of competition, service activities, and cultural outings. The return to the in-person championship provided a platform for friendly competition and collaborative experiences among the participating schools.

Founded with a mind for service and cultural awareness, ACSC affords athletes the opportunity to serve in a local community of the host school and experience life in the host country. This year, the competing teams partnered with Kids International Mission and local churches to serve food to children of impoverished families, spend time in an orphanage with infants and toddlers, and provide meals alongside a local prison ministry. The service ministry is an eye-opening experience for the high schoolers, one that often has the most impact on them both during and after the trip.

The competition itself spanned three days, five sessions, twenty events, and four hundred individual swims. YISS swimmers captured a number of top three finishes, earning all-tournament honors. Additionally, three boys—Jeffery Y. (12), Ben C. (11), and Max G. (10)—and three girls—Jaimie H. (12), and Soul J. (11), and Chloe P. (9)—earned all-conference honors for their specific contributions to their teams’ success. Finally, Ben C. (11) also captured MVP honors for the boys for both his individual accomplishments and sportsmanship.

On the backs of these individual achievements, the Guardian swimmers led their teams to team championships for the boys, girls, and the combined team. Congratulations to all swimmers for your individual swims and contribution to your team’s success!
