High School Musicians Shine in the Fall Concert

On October 16, the high school musicians opened the 2024–25 concert season with a beautiful evening of music. Featuring performances by the Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra, the concert highlighted artistry, collaboration, and the joy of making music together.

The Concert Choir opened with the YISS Alma Mater “Ever Higher”, composed by the AP Music Theory class and arranged by Lynelle Harding, followed by “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?”, Mozart’s “Canon” from the Coronation Mass, and Pitoni’s “Cantate Domino.” The choir concluded with “California Dreamin’”, filling the auditorium with nostalgic harmonies and lively spirit.

The Jazz Band brought energy and flair to the stage with Cole Porter’s “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love”, Peter Sciano’s “EKG”, and Drew Zaremba’s “Brincando com Fogo.” Their set combined timeless swing, modern rhythms, and impressive solos.

The Concert Band performed David Shaffer’s “Cantus Jubilante”, Carol Brittin Chambers’ “All That We Are”, and Gary P. Gilroy’s “Galop.” From fanfares to heartfelt melodies, the program celebrated both precision and passion.

The Orchestra followed with a cinematic program, beginning with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Amadeus Soundtrack Highlights”. The ensemble continued with Doug Spata’s “The Blue Caves of Zakynthos”, expressing the beauty of Greece’s coastal caves, and closed with Thom Sharp’s “Samba for a Sunday Afternoon”, a vibrant, rhythmic piece inspired by the streets of Brazil.

The Symphonic Orchestra concluded the evening with the triumphant “Cantus Jubilante”, the lyrical “All That We Are”, and the high-energy “Galop.” Their performance showcased technical mastery, culminating in a powerful finale.
