ES Boys Soccer Team Shows Growth and Grit

Written by Simon Adams, ES Boys’ Soccer Coach

The ES Boys’ Soccer team enjoyed an energetic start to their season, beginning with their first round of matches on Saturday, September 20, during which the boys demonstrated strong teamwork and determination. Building on that foundation, the players traveled to SFS on Saturday, October 18, for a highly anticipated jamboree filled with competitive games against several other talented elementary soccer teams. With cool fall weather and high spirits, the boys stepped onto the field ready to give their all.

YISS fielded two 5th grade teams and one 4th grade team, each supported not only by Coach Adams but also by two dedicated parent volunteers who helped lead and guide the players throughout the day. Their support—organizing rotations, offering encouragement, and helping manage each match—played an invaluable role in keeping everyone confident and focused.

Throughout the jamboree, the boys faced opponents with a wide range of playing styles. Some teams were fast and aggressive, while others relied on sharp passing and strong ball control. Regardless of the challenge, the YISS players demonstrated grit and adaptability. They communicated effectively, defended bravely, and pushed forward with creative attacking play. Their growth since the September 20 matches was clear on the field.

One of the best goals scored involved one of our players skillfully dribbling past four defenders before tucking it in the corner past the goalkeeper—a goal that drew cheers from teammates and parents.

Parent involvement has been a key part of the season, and the jamboree once again highlighted this supportive community spirit. With the combined effort of Coach Adams and the parent volunteers, the environment remained positive and structured, allowing the boys to perform their best.

Across the day’s matches, the three YISS teams experienced wins, draws, and losses—each offering valuable lessons about perseverance and sportsmanship. The boys learned to celebrate achievements, reflect on challenges, and continue pushing forward with Guardian grit.

By the end of the jamboree, the players walked away proud—knowing they had given their very best in both the September 20 and the October 18 jamborees. Parents and coaches were truly impressed by their effort, attitude, and can-do spirit. Beyond the results, the boys strengthened friendships within their teams and with players from other schools, making the entire experience even more meaningful and memorable.
