Fall Book Fair Nurtures a Love for Reading

Students, teachers, and parents immersed themselves in the world of books during the Fall Book Fair, held in the main lobby from November 20-23. Once again, the PTO and YISS Media Centers (libraries) partnered with book company, TongBang Books, as well as Christian book company, Word of Life, to offer an extensive array of quality English books for all ages at discounted prices for our community.  The selection included nearly 3,400 unique titles.

Our media specialists created a special section to highlight Morning Calm Medal books as well as a recommended book section for each reading level. The event not only helped to provide new books at home (over 3,900 copies sold) but also for classroom libraries. Thanks to the generosity of parents, 217  books were added to classroom libraries this year. Thank you to the staff of TongBang Books for providing students with a fantastic selection of books to browse. The most popular titles included The Wild Robot Protects, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: No Brainer, and 169-Storey Treehouse

The event was undeniably successful, as evidenced by numerous readers discovering new titles and reflected in strong sales throughout the three-and-a-half-day fair. A portion of the sales will be donated to the YISS PTO, specifically designated for initiatives related to reading. This includes prizes for the ES Read-a-Thon, author visits, and other school events designed to benefit the entire school community.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated in the Fall Book Fair, from visitors to those who generously contributed books for classroom libraries. Special thanks to the Fall Book Fair Committee members—Jessica Chung, Christine Lee, Jordan Redmond, and Charles Chan—and their dedicated team of parent volunteers. Your efforts played a crucial role in guiding students to discover new books and facilitating invaluable donations to classroom libraries.

What a remarkable event it was, strengthening our commitment to fostering a love for reading within our school community!
