Exploring Color in Kindergarten Art Class

“Primary colors, primary colors…” filled the air of the art room as kindergarten students sang about the primary and secondary colors during class. In their first unit of the year, the young artists learned all about color and how artists use it to express themselves.

Students explored various mediums such as tempera paints, air dry clay, and ink while experimenting with multiple techniques like painting, printmaking, and collage. The kindergartners made art inspired by Kandinksy and Seurat with pieces to celebrate International Dot Day. Color mixing was a highlight for the artists as they made secondary colors using primary-colored paints and then air dry clay.

Colors are crucial elements of art -- the building blocks of art -- which made exploring colors a great place to kick off a school year for our school’s youngest artists.
