ES & MS Enter Season of Kindness During RAK Kick-Off

Have you noticed the colors changing around Korea? Seasons are often marked by a change in outward appearance. Perhaps you’ve also noticed elementary and middle school students at YISS wearing “Be Kind” t-shirts. During this season of kindness, our students are bringing visibility to the goal of making kindness the norm through the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) campaign.

To kick off the start of RAK, the ES and MS partnered to provide a week of spirit days on October 11-14. On the first day of RAK Spirit Week, kindergarten through 8th graders wore their pajamas proclaiming “kindness never sleeps.” The next two days in the MS saw “Color Day” where students shined bright with kindness, and “Celebrity Day” where it was cool to be kind. The ES students are crazy about kindness, and on the second day, they wore their crazy socks. On the third day, the ES students wore their best space-inspired outfits because kindness is out of this world.

On the final day of the week, all elementary and middle school students were invited to wear their RAK t-shirts, with the new design inspired by 7th grader Elisha P.

Random Acts of Kindness emphasizes our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs), or the core values of being a Guardian, through six concepts of kindness: respect, caring, inclusiveness, integrity, responsibility, and courage. During the kick-off, our middle school student council even performed skits that highlighted these concepts.

Throughout the year you will see class lessons, activities and events that are RAK related. These are ways to bring kindness to life and teach students invaluable lessons.
