Book Swap Reduces Waste and Promotes Mental Health

Did you know that by participating in the PTO Book Swap, you are not only helping to reduce waste and save trees, but you can also receive health benefits? Medical studies show that reading reduces stress and anxiety and also battles mental decline and dementia. Therefore, reading improves your brain health and mental well-being while protecting the environment. This is why the YISS PTO is so proud to sponsor the Book Swap every year, and this year’s event was a smashing success!

Over 150 participants contributed approximately 2,200 books! From kindergarten students to YISS staff, picture books to Shakespeare, there was an amazing selection of old and new classics. The event also took place from February 14-16, just before the kickoff of elementary Read-a-Thon and during MS Reading Appreciation Month, so students could supplement their reading lists. Perfect timing!

The remaining books were donated to the charity organization, Little Library Project, which aims to support underprivileged children in developing countries by providing English books. Much like the YISS community, the Little Library Project believes in the value of reading and education. What a privilege to support their efforts through our Book Swap.

Thank you to everyone who participated and to all the parent volunteers. See you at next year’s Book Swap!
