Students Dive Deeper at “Anchored” High School Retreat

Written by Eduard Booysen and Jenn Miller, Encounter Staff Members

From January 16–18, approximately 90 high school students stepped away from the noise of daily life and into something deeper. With phones put away and hearts wide open, students and leaders traveled outside the city for our annual High School Retreat, centered on the theme “Anchored.”

The retreat brought together an incredible community of YISS teachers led by Mr. Chan, Mr. Booysen, Ms. Miller, Ms. S. Kim, Pastor Jiwon of Ark Church, Pastor Levi of Freedom Village Church, and high school students. Each person played a role in creating a space where participants could slow down, connect, and encounter God.

Throughout the weekend, students engaged in powerful times of worship, four meaningful messages, small group discussions, and morning quiet times with Scripture. Laughter and bonding filled the gaps between sessions through games, a scavenger hunt, and shared moments that strengthened friendships.

Students also participated in two engaging seminars: Apologetics with Ms. Delisle and Missions with Ms. Miller. Challenging them to think deeply about their faith and how it connects to the world around them.

The purpose of the retreat was simple but powerful: to give students space to encounter God in a new environment, to strengthen their faith, and to cultivate a positive, anchored in Christ community among our high school students. Judging by the conversations, prayers, laughter, and reflections shared throughout the weekend, that purpose was beautifully fulfilled.
