Jeju GOES Team Serves God By Serving Others

The YISS Guardians Outreach Education & Service (GOES) program sent five teams to serve and share the love of God in various locations over spring break. Focusing on building relationships and making unforgettable memories, our team went to Jeju Island to love and serve those in need. We visited a facility for those with mental disabilities and a nursing home to share our talents and passions. We performed skits and songs, played games, and made crafts to entertain the people at the facilities. Having prepared the various performances and activities for two months, our team was relieved and delighted to see the smiles on the audience’s faces.

Our team demonstrated service throughout the trip by cleaning the facilities, helping organize the gardens, and even cooking to fulfill the needs of the people who live there. Seeking to provide genuine help, our team sought ways to go out of our comfort zone and become true servants. We were pleased to see everyone satisfied with our acts of service.

In addition to the core purpose of serving others, our team spent quality time sightseeing and hiking together. We had a wonderful tour guide who took us to places that captured Jeju’s beautiful scenery. After completing our days of service, our team spent a day hiking up Hallasan, the highest point in South Korea. And after endless hours of hiking, we enjoyed a barbeque dinner at one of the most famous restaurants in Jeju.

From hiking to performing, our team encountered many new opportunities to grow throughout our six days in Jeju. We described this trip as a challenging but enlightening journey. This was the first YISS GOES trip for all of our team members, making it a meaningful experience for us to bond with new people and see the works of God. YISS GOES Jeju 2023 will remain as a special memory for our whole team.
