NHS Awards YISS Senior Kyra Jun Prestigious Scholarship

The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Kyra Jun, a high school senior at Yongsan International School of Seoul and member of the YISS NHS chapter, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist.

Since 1946, more than $25 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

In the 100 years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities. The NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work supporting the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Upon hearing the news, High School Principal Jeff Marquis stated, “Kyra Jun has impacted YISS in many ways, particularly with humility and poise of character. Her leadership style is in support of and in service to those around her, wanting and expecting the best; this usually results in the improvement of the collective well-being. She is effusive even when serving as Student Council president. All the while, she maintains a scholarly approach to her studies and models the ESLRs of service and leadership.”

In addition to serving as the high school Student Council president, she has been a peer tutor and has participated in various school events, such as Hour of Code. This fall, she will attend Harvard University.
