Spring Book Fair Unites School in Book Browsing Fun

From April 1 to 3, the YISS Spring Book Fair transformed the school’s main lobby into a welcoming space for book lovers of all ages. Hosted by the YISS PTO’s Spring Book Fair Committee in partnership with local English book vendor TongBang Books, the event offered students, families, and staff access to thousands of high-quality books at discounted prices.

Over the course of three days, tables were filled with an array of titles—from colorful picture books for preschoolers to novels for teens and adults. In total, more than 2,650 books were sold, with the newly released Dog Man: Big Jim Begins becoming the top seller.

Adding to the variety, over 300 titles from Christian book vendor Word of Life were also available, further enriching the fair’s offerings. Altogether, the event featured more than 3,200 unique titles and over 8,200 individual books, including graphic novels, reference materials, and award-winning books such as the Morning Calm Book Award winners.

Students across all divisions engaged enthusiastically with the fair. Elementary and middle school classes visited during scheduled times, while high school students stopped by during lunch, study hall, or class to browse and buy. Many used the opportunity to stock up on great reads before the summer break.

All books were offered at a minimum of 25% off the retail price, and a portion of the proceeds was donated to support school literacy programs such as the Elementary Read-A-Thon and community events such as the International Bazaar.

The success of the fair was made possible by the collaborative efforts of our dedicated parent volunteers, librarians, media specialists, and teachers. Their work in recommending titles, guiding students, and showcasing student book reviews contributed significantly to the welcoming, reader-friendly atmosphere.

A special thank you goes to the Spring Book Fair Committee—Esther Ho, Sujin Park, Pedzi Viriri, and Charles Chan—as well as the TongBang Books staff for their outstanding coordination and commitment. Thanks to their efforts, the fair was not just a place to buy books, but a celebration of reading that brought the entire YISS community together.
