Guardian Ambassadors Help Welcome New Students

On September 18 and September 19, our elementary counselors, administrators, chaplain, and the Guardian Ambassadors came together to help welcome all of our new ES students by hosting two New Student Socials. The Guardian Ambassadors are members of the fourth and fifth grade student leadership team who are passionate about building a caring community here at YISS.

Kindergarten and first grade students were the guests of honor on Thursday, September 18, while the new students in second to fifth grade were welcomed after school on Friday, September 19. It was a special time of playing board and card games, engaging in outdoor activities, and socializing over refreshments. It was wonderful to see so many students from various grade levels getting to know one another and having fun together.

Proudly wearing their teal sashes, the Guardian Ambassadors guided activities, made introductions, and helped ensure every newcomer felt seen and celebrated. In preparation for the event, the Guardian Ambassadors spent time discussing “what it means to be a leader” and “how to welcome others.” At the close of each event, the Ambassadors led a cheerful farewell parade, lining up to wave goodbye to all of our new students. It was a heart-warming moment—one that echoed our school’s dedication to creating belonging and community.

Thanks to the dedication of our ES staff volunteers, the Guardian Ambassadors, and, of course, our wonderful new students and families, the New Student Social provided a special time of connection and fun to begin the year.
