MS Parents Follow Student Schedules During Open House

On September 1, middle school administration, teachers, and staff were delighted to welcome the middle school parents to campus for our first in-person open house since the beginning of the pandemic. It was a joy to meet parents face-to-face and have an opportunity to get to know one another a bit. 

The evening started with a presentation from the middle school principal and assistant principal where they shared the vision for the YISS middle school: a place of belonging, a place of collaboration, a place of learning and growing, and a place of support and encouragement. 

After the presentation, the highlight for many parents was the opportunity to attend their child’s classes. In advance of the event, students prepared a schedule for their parents to follow. Parents moved from class to class to hear teachers share about the learning the year ahead holds for their children. This was an opportunity for parents to see and experience a taste of the school environment. 

Parents also had an opportunity to participate in a brief session hosted by the middle school counselor and chaplain who shared opportunities for students to engage in their school life and ways in which the counseling and chaplain offices support students and families. 

The evening wrapped up with an opportunity for parents to visit the exploratory fair. Each exploratory teacher hosted a table where parents could stop by and learn more about PE, music, art, creative writing, drama, etc. 

The YISS middle school fully believes the truth of our annual school theme “Better Together.” It is a joy and a privilege for our middle school administration, teachers, and staff to partner with parents in educating their children, and our students benefit when we work together! The school year ahead is bright with possibilities and many opportunities for our middle school students to learn and grow!
