Immersion Embarks on Service Trip to Telunas
Once again, the middle school sailed back to Telunas Island in Indonesia for this year’s exciting Immersion trip. From March 21 to 27, 23 students and 6 chaperones embarked on a journey to Telunas Island to serve and explore the community. After the school day was over and the students had pizza in the MPR-2, they traveled by bus, plane, bus, ferry, and a long boat to arrive at the final destination.
For each day of the trip, the students were provided with meals, inspiring team devotions, local beach activities, reflection time, and one main event. On the first day, the Immersion team was welcomed by the staff members at the resort with a refreshing drink, where they then participated in a rope course and games of brumball and gagaball. The next day, they participated in a muddy 10k hike to a waterfall in the jungle.
On the third day, the Immersion team visited a local town to help mix cement and build walls to prevent flooding. After the manual labor, the team all sat down to enjoy the delicious homemade snacks and lunch made by the villagers. Afterwards, the team made bracelets and played volleyball and soccer with the village kids. On the fourth day, the team returned to the village to continue with the cement walls and make crafts with the villagers. The team arrived back at the resort to play the “middle man fishing” game and spent the next hour fishing and deck jumping.
On the last night of the adventurous trip, the Telunas staff hosted a special campfire “pizza and smores” night to celebrate the growth and effort to help others. The next day, the team woke up bright and early to pack bags, do some karaoke, and exchange goodbyes before returning back to Seoul.
