Fall Production Returns to the Nostalgia of the ‘90s

On November 10-12, our theatre students put on a production of "The Importance of Being Everly," an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" with a '90s twist.

In recent years, our students' generation has returned to the nostalgia of the ’90s and adopted the hairstyles and clothing trends of the day. Our students have enjoyed recreating these looks and even learning what a pager really was. During auditions, many students mimed "scrolling" on their "pagers" as if they were today’s smartphones, so we found one online to learn what the functions really were! We hope you enjoy this return to an era of not-so-long-ago past.

This year, our alternating Blue and Gold casts put on exceptional shows. We would like to highlight the males in the cast who also played double roles this year, performing in every show. They did a fantastic job in each role and amazed us all by memorizing lines for two different characters each.

The theatre department would like to extend a special thanks to all who made this play possible and special. Many hours of work from students and their faculty mentors went into the show. Thanks to the Faculty Theatre mentors who spent many hours training student crews in theatre: Ms. Nichols, Mr. Tadeo, Mr. Ludwig, Mr. Dunham, Mr. Martinez, Mr. Chan, Mrs. Flores, Ms. Roper, and Ms. Steffen.

From the beginning, students researched and created the visuals of the show, painted and constructed the set, designed the sound and lighting, and created a lively atmosphere for this comedic, and likely nostalgic, high school story. Our student crews did some amazing work designing and painting the set, and we would like to give a special shout-out to an art student S. Yang for designing and drawing the digital projections for the show. The set crew even learned to make Jell-O and used fake ice to create the illusion of lemonade on stage.

Thank you to the yearbook class for taking amazing portraits and photos for the show, to all the faculty volunteers who ran ticketing sales, and to the many students who volunteered for the house crew. I would also like to extend a special thanks to the theatre parents who hosted a delicious cast and crew appreciation brunch: Mrs. Yoo, Mrs. Suh, and Mrs. Kim.
