Comedy “Bringing Down the House” Packs the House
Written by Vincent Ku, Play Director
From late August through November, a dedicated cast of 32 students and a 36-member crew worked hard to bring the comedy “Bringing Down the House” to life. The YISS Theatre Department once again highlighted the talent and teamwork that define our performing arts program. Led by our experienced upperclassmen and energized by the youthful energy of our middle school performers, “Bringing Down the House” took center stage from November 12–14.
From the very first performance, audience members were drawn into the show’s humor and charm. Word spread quickly, and by closing night, ushers struggled to find enough seats for everyone who came to enjoy the production. It was a wonderful challenge—and one that reflected the hard work and passion poured into this year’s fall play.
Despite the looming threat of a “demolished theatre” in the show’s storyline—and the real-life challenges posed by illnesses circulating among cast and crew—our students stepped up with resilience and professionalism. Their commitment made it possible to present three amazing performances.
As the director, continuing to build upon the YISS Theatre legacy established by previous leaders was both an honor and a privilege. It was a joy working with this group of such passionate and talented young thespians. Throughout the rehearsal process, students demonstrated tremendous growth in character development, stage presence, and technical skill, becoming more confident and capable with each run-through.
Among many standout moments, one highlight was the YISS community's response. The encouragement and praise from students, staff, and families underscored the production's impact. And for sheer delight, few things topped hearing elementary students chant humorous protests about “defective denture cream”—a playful nod to one of the show’s running gags.
To everyone who came to support the cast and crew, thank you for making this fall play such a success. Special thanks to our theatre parents for their generous support and efforts in helping us celebrate our achievements with a wonderful cast party.
YISS Theatre remains committed to creating memorable performances that unite our community through shared stories and artistic expression on stage. We look forward to welcoming you back for our musical, “Annie” in April 2026.
