RAK Campaign Encourages Making Kindness the Norm

‘Tis the season of kindness at Yongsan International School of Seoul. Each year, our elementary and middle school students engage in a Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) campaign, which revolves around the six core concepts: respect, caring, inclusiveness, integrity, responsibility, and courage.

Joining a global community of RAKtivists, schools worldwide are collectively striving to make kindness the norm. Aligning with our school's annual theme of "Created for Good," students from kindergarten to 8th grade have all been given a purple 'Created for Kindness' shirt.

The middle school's kick-off event took place on October 23, integrated into a Guardian Gathering. Led by the MS Student Council (StuCo), students delved into the six core concepts of kindness and learned how they might be applied at school. The student council brought positive energy and fostered a deeper understanding of kindness through speeches, skits, and games.

In the elementary school division, two assemblies marked the launch of this year's RAK campaign. These events also featured class lessons on leveraging kindness to prevent and address bullying. As part of the RAK Launch Week, elementary students enthusiastically participated in the RAK Bubble Letter competition, which encourages students to work together as a class to think creatively and critically about what it means to be kind. The MS StuCo assisted by judging the Bubble Letter competition and selecting winners from among K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade classes, and a most creative entry. The winning classes will celebrate with an ice cream party.

Additionally, ES counseling team invites students to complete RAK ESLRs (Expected Schoolwide Learning Results) Challenges throughout this school year. Shared on Schoology and during chapels and assemblies, these challenges aim to inspire students to put our ESLRs and kindness into action.

We look forward to seeing the creative ways our students spread kindness this school year.
