Boys’ Soccer Breaks ACSC Drought

The YISS boys’ soccer team traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to take part in the Asia Christian Schools Conference (ACSC) Tournament.

Heading into the tournament, this year’s team had limited experience, with only three out of the eighteen roster spots occupied by upperclassmen.

The boys lost their first game but rebounded well with a dominant performance, beating Morrison Academy 5-2. This was the first win in the ACSC tournament since 2014, but the boys were not done. They went on to finish the tournament in 5th place with a record of three wins and three losses.

The Guardians had two players make the All-ACSC tournament: Luc Mercier (12) and Bryan L. (11). Both players were well deserving of the recognition. Bryan managed to score three goals in five games, while Luc played every single minute in all six games of the tourney.

Aside from soccer, the boys were able to explore Chiang Mai and learn about Thai culture and religion. Everyone crammed into songthaews (small truck taxis) and explored the heart of Chiang Mai as well as a couple of night markets.

This year’s ACSC tournament was a great success. The boys were able to make lots of memories on and off the field. This young Guardians team has a bright future, as the majority of opposing coaches complimented their style of play, “togetherness,” and attitude throughout the tournament.
