For the middle school girls’ soccer team, the theme this year was, “If you work together, you never know what you can accomplish.” As the season went on, the team gelled, and the system put in place by the coaches started to work more and more, allowing for opportunities from multiple girls to score.
As the All-Star Tournament neared, the Lady Guardians had an opportunity to make a splash with their hard-working team. In pool play, they easily defeated Dwight and Dalton but fell just short against a very strong Dulwich team. This landed them in the semi-finals against SFS. At the end of the match, the Crusaders were just too strong for the Guardians. YISS finished in 3rd place. Alize R. (8) was named to the All-Tournament team for the Guardians. Thank you to Coach Trevino and Coach Ike for leading this year's team.
The middle school boys soccer team also wrapped up a great season. Throughout eight weeks and three jamborees, 32 boys worked on their skills and their teamwork to become not only better soccer players but better people. Led by Coach Crane, they assembled their best to challenge the best of MS KAIAC on October 27 at the KAIAC All-Star Tournament held at YISS.
During the tournament, the Guardians struggled in the first game, still getting the sleep out of their eyes, but they came alive in the second game to beat APIS. Advancing in the elimination round, the Guardians squared off against a tough TCIS in the quarterfinals. However, the now powering offense was too much for the Dragons as YISS advanced again. In the semi-final against Chadwick, the boys had many opportunities but could not find the back on the net, falling 1-1 (1-3) in penalty kicks and finishing in 3rd place for the day. Karl H. (8) was named to the All-Tournament team after holding down the strong defense and igniting the Guardian attack.
