What began as an experiment looks like the beginning of something special here at YISS. In its inaugural year the Middle School intramural sports program matched over 100 students onto 8 boys teams and 4 girls teams. The students played scheduled games and worked together to come up with plays and strategies. After a playoff round, the final teams met for championship games on the main floor in front of their peers. "It was great to see the students cheer each other on and to hear the crowd to roar as each basket was made," stated Mr. Davis. But at the end of the day their were only 2 champions.
The girls final came down to the wire as the Storm edged out the Liberty 10-8 led by Gabi B's (8) six points. Lily W (6) led the Liberty with four points in the losing effort. Jasmine C (7), Lynn P (8), Dyanne A (6), Meredith B (7), Jackie C (6), Sophia L (6), and Jasmine L (7) completed the Storm's roster.
The boys final matched a tough Warriors team against the undefeated Grizzlies. Despite gaining a quick lead, the Grizzlies had to fight the whole game to hold off a determined Warriors team. In the end Corban R's (8) twenty points was too much to overcome as the Grizzlies pulled off a 26-22 victory. Julian R (8) added eight points for the Warriors. Also playing for the Grizzlies, Gonzalo C (8), Francis P (7), Michael H (7), Jin K (6), Gideon C (6), and Justin L (7).
