MS Basketball Teams Take on Chadwick at YISS

By Jeremiah Davis May 18, 2016

In what has turned into an annual tradition to cap off the MS Sports year, the MS basketball all-star teams played Chadwick at YISS on May 17. In the first game of the day the girls tipped off and showed why they were one of the top teams in KAIAC this season with a strong defense and a quick transition offense. Poor shooting plagued the Lady Guardians in the first half but the team still led 15-0 at the break. The second half proved to be much of the same leading to a 23-4 victory. Lily W. (7th Grade) led all scorers with 8 points and Rachel K. (8th Grade) added 6 points in the winning effort.

Some thought that it was going to be a long night for the YISS boys due to the the height of the Chadwick team and a previous loss to them in the MS Tournament. However the teamwork, control, and intensity that the Guardians showed proved to cause problems for the larger and stronger Chadwick team on their way to a 16-16 tie at the half. The second half was another show of teamwork by the Guardians against Chadwick. Going into the last minute the Guardians were down by only one, but two big free throws by Mahad K. game them a 29-28 lead with 45 seconds left. A late basket by the visitors gave them the lead with only 30 seconds left to seal the 30-29 win for the Dolphins. Paul O. (8th Grade) led the Guardians with 11 points and Mahad K. (8th Grade) added 7 points and multiple rebounds.
