Each year, YISS middle school students participate in the Week Without Walls program, which is designed to let students have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning. Students and teachers leave campus to participate in activities designed to promote character and leadership development, as well as outdoor and service learning.
This year’s 8th Grade Week Without Walls, which took place from October 29 – November 2, 2018, was the smoothest Jeju trip so far! It was great to see the students experiencing new activities and overcoming challenges outside of the classroom. The week was packed, starting with exploring a lava tube and ending with community service projects. Highlights from the week included being in the crashing waves of the ocean with Jeju’s famous women divers, catching various fish, eating tangerines after hiking Halla Mountain, eating delicious Korean BBQ, and finally completing the community service projects.
The Week Without Walls was a great trip to make memories and experience new things while also giving back to the community by cleaning the beach and serving the elderly in nursing homes. At the end of the trip, the 8th graders returned to Seoul closer, wiser, and refreshed. The Class of 2023 is excited for the rest of the year and the many more friendships and memories to come!
