YISS Tennis Competes in Okinawa Tournament

By Allison Craft Nov 11, 2016

This November, the YISS varsity team traveled to Okinawa, Japan with their top 4 girls and top 4 boys to compete in the Far East Tennis Tournament. The tournament features 17 teams, mostly Korean and Japanese Department of Defense schools, with a few fierce competitors coming from international schools in Tokyo. The week was full of many great tennis match ups, giving the team plenty of opportunities to show off the skills they had honed during the season. The team played in a variety of lineups from singles, to doubles, and for the first time of the season, even mixed doubles.

Despite the new pairings, the mixed doubles teams showed great teamwork and communication, with the first doubles team, Ryan H. and Allison P. winning 3rd place, and our second doubles team, Matthew C. and Annie N. taking 5th place. After a long week, the YISS ladies pulled out a victorious 3rd place in the stacked Division 1, and the YISS team overall came in 2nd. It was a great tournament, wrapping a long and successful tennis season. Go Guardians!
