Varsity Swim Finishes Strong

By Tim Linn May 7, 2016

This was one of our hardest working and most talented swim teams in YISS history. Starting in January the Guardian Varsity swim team swam approximately 1500 meters a week in preparation for their season. Throughout the season, they swam very well and continued to improve.

They finished off the year on an extremely high note at the championships April 29 and 30th.

Championship recap:

Friday (Day1), the Guardian girls swim team had a great showing; but despite 4 school records and over a dozen other personal best times they still found themselves in 3rd trailing SAHS by only 2 points in a close battle for 2nd place.

The Boys Swim team also had a decent showing on Friday with numerous personal best times and 3 school records, however, they found themselves in a solid 4th position trailing KIS by over 30pts for 3rd place.

Saturday (Day 2), our Guardian swimmers could have been content to hold on to their very respectable 3rd and 4th places. But senior captains Abby B., Daniel N., and Edward C. had different plans for the last varsity meet of their career! The Girls team flew by SAHS in the point standings finishing 2nd overall and tying our school's highest finish ever. The boys team was still trailing KIS by 16pts with only 2 events remaining, a seemingly impossible task... but the impossible was made possible with huge swims from all of our boys in the relays erasing the deficit and beating KIS by 1.5 points!!

Special congratulations to Jiyu S. earning All-Tournament honors by placing 2nd in the 50 breast, 2nd in the 50 free, and 3rd in the 100 breast. This is the top individual performance in YISSTORY.

The following individuals also made YISSTORY by setting individual and/or relay school records:

Abby B. 12th
Jiyu S. 9th
Rebecca K. 9th
Yoona C. 9th
Jeri K. 9th

Edward C. 12th
Edward P. 10th
Danny K. 10th
Daniel N. 10th

Congrats to all the swimmers on their well earned best times and hard fought victories!
