Nov 27, 2017

On Saturday, November 19, the YISS varsity boys and girls basketball teams participated in the Korean Classic Basketball Tournament hosted by KIS. The boys won all three of their games with an average margin of victory of 24 points, taking home first place for the second consecutive year. The dominant performance was highlighted by good point guard play from Max C. (11, Julian R. (11), Paul O. (10). Nathan M. (12) averaged a double-double through all three games with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ahoura R. (11) averaged 13 points throughout the tournament. The boys' suffocating team defense was a strength, holding their opponents on average to only 36 points per game. Tayne K. (11) and Jonathan Y. (10) led the defensive attack, each averaging three steals per game. The team is looking forward to the start of conference play.

The Lady Guardians have been on a roll to start the season, and their performance at the Korean Classic was evidence of it. During the first game matchup against SIS, Ashley C. (10) came out hot, scoring a team-high 11 points, leading YISS to a 28-17 victory. In the second game against TCIS, YISS found themselves down to start the second half, but a 10-2 third quarter put the Lady Guardians on top, leading to a 32-24 victory. Rachael K. (10) led the way with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds. The final game against KIS would determine the Classic Champion. YISS found themselves down after the first quarter, but a 14-0 run in the second got the Guardians back out in front, and they never looked back. Andre L. (12) led all scorers with 13 points, and Dyanne A. (9) chipped in 8 points towards the victory. The Classic title was a first for the Lady Guardians, and it was a true team victory as all team members played and contributed.

Congratulations to the boys and girls varsity basketball teams on a great start to the season!
