On Friday, October 5, the YISS community had the special privilege of hearing from a visiting American university jazz combo. The University of Nebraska Omaha's Jazz Combo stopped through Seoul on their way to an international jazz competition and gave the YISS audience a sneak peek at their performance pieces. The UNO jazz combo is unique in that all of its songs are written by the combo performers as a part of their composition course. These amazingly talented young musicians, a group of six members led by Pete Madsen and Darren Pettit, not only entertained the audience with their complex compositions and improvisation but they also held a jazz clinic for the YISS high school jazz band.

Throughout the clinic, the YISS jazz band played some of their pieces, and the UNO jazz combo members gave their expert advice on how to make the pieces even better! The YISS students had a great learning experience, and they raved about how privileged they felt to have been provided with the opportunity to meet with the UNO jazz musicians, hear them play, and pick their brains about jazz.
