Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the YISS Model UN (MUN) Team opened up their season by competing in the Yale Model UN Conference in Korea. Two hundred and fifty students from Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, and the US competed in the conference. Boasting a well-rounded delegation of veterans and newcomers, the 18 delegates from YISS put on a fine show, which led to YISS students winning awards in six out of seven committees.
Individual awards went to the following:
Jasmine C. (11) won "Top Delegate" representing Germany in the UN Human Rights Committee
Jiyu S. (12) won "Outstanding Delegate" representing Germany in the European Union Committee
Rebecca K. (12) won "Outstanding Delegate" representing Ethiopia in the Security Council
Vanessa S. (12) won "Outstanding Delegate" representing Germany in the Social-Humanitarian Committee
Moon C. (11) won "Outstanding Delegate" representing Germany in the UN Development Program Committee
Eliana K. (11) won "Honourable Mention" representing Germany in the Committee on the Status of Women Committee
Mr. Pash and Mr. Biersteker, the team sponsors, would like to congratulate the whole team, and particularly the newcomers, for a great weekend and for their strong showing! The YISS Model UN team will be competing next at the CMUNCE Conference at Columbia University in January.
