Model United Nations Attends Conference in India

By Kyle Pash Nov 27, 2017

From November 9-14, YISS high school’s Model United Nations (MUN) members traveled to the American International School in Chennai, India to take part in the CHEMUN XI conference. Representing YISS were Sohom D. (9), Jasmine C. (10), Moon C. (10), Eliana K. (10), Eric K. (10), Sean R. (10), Rebecca K. (11), Robin R. (11), and James K. (12). Throughout the three-day conference, students discussed, analyzed, and collaborated on different issues and possible solutions facing the United Nations today. Whether it was about health care for non-citizens, preserving the cultural diversity of indigenous societies, or establishing a legal framework for military drones, student delegates strove to reconcile competing interests with students from over 30 schools and seven nations.

When not attending the conference, students experienced the fusion of ancient and modern India by walking around the Kapaleeswarar Temple and dancing to Bollywood music at the host school’s social night. Of course, no recap of the trip would be complete without the delicious Indian food enjoyed–all types of curries, paneer, aloo, and naan.

All students put forth great effort, earning the praise of chairs, advisors, and their fellow delegates. Congratulations to the MUN team for representing YISS well!
