The Mock Trial program helps students acquire a working knowledge of the judicial system while developing analytical abilities and communication skills. By studying cases and preparing strategies and arguments for trial, students actively experience the excitement of working in teams, exchanging ideas, setting goals, and examining issues.
The YISS Mock Trial team, consisting of seniors Allison R. and Maya H., juniors Joanne L. and Irene G., and sophomores Sean L. and Chanyoung C., competed at the annual Yale-Korea Mock Trial Association (KMTA) competition at the COEX Convention Center on August 25 and 26. This is the most prestigious and demanding of the Mock Trial competitions in which YISS participates, and the students won the majority of their rounds against other schools.
The YISS student team received comments from Yale-educated judges praising both the witnesses’ delivery and characterization and the attorneys' delivery of speeches. In addition, Allison R. received an individual award for Best Attorney with nine points in both the prosecution and defense rounds. Congratulations to these students on their success, and best wishes to all YISS Mock Trial students as they prepare for additional competitions later this year.
