YISS Students Catch the Fever for Chess

By Candy Swift Mar 8, 2017

Chess enthusiasm is spreading throughout YISS. Twenty-eight of our hopeful YISS students met at Korea International School in late February for the Winter KAIAC Chess Tournament. The YISS participation was double the turnout for the fall tournament.

Throughout the day, students of varying ability levels employed strategic moves and countermoves. Our participants faced peers in five to seven challenging rounds with 12 to 20 minutes on the chess clock. Through it all, students honed strategic thinking skills, planning, and sportsmanship. A few students also captured spots in the top ten places their division. In the end, all had an enjoyable time.

There is still time to join the fun. The final tournament will be held on April 15 at Seoul International School. Go YISS!
